Kurama Fire Festival

On the same day (22nd) than Jidai Matsuri introduced previously, the Kurama fire festival will be held from sunset (around 18:00) to late at night. It's at least as popular as Jidai Matsuri, but narrow streets of Kurama make this matsuri felt even more crowded ! Also the access to this small village in the mountain at north of Kyoto can became difficult due to the rush of visitors. We recommend you strongly to go there very early, and to get ready to wait for a long time while coming back. The common way to go there is to take the train from Demachiyanagi station (Keihan line until there, Eizan Kurama line from there). It costs 410 yen and takes 30mn from Demachiyanagi to Kurama.
This matsuri consists of a parade with huge torches whose light is supposed to attract devil away from humans realms.
