Take city bus No.5 from the Kyoto station or Hana hostel(Karasuma nanajo).

Hydrangea Festival

Flowers does bloom differently every year. How do they bloom this year?
It is conjectured that Japanese Hydrangea will bloom in the end of May until the end of June and the rain season commences simultaneously.
I reckon some flowers are displayed magnificently in the rain.

Hydrangea Festival will be held at Fujimori Jinjya Shirine.

Date: end of May until the end of June (ask at the reception for further information)
9:00 - 16:00

Fee: Free but it costs 300 yen to enter the best spot

Access: Kyoto Sta. - Tofukuji Sta. (JR Nara line) (2 min.)
Tofukuji Sta. - Fujimori Sta. (Keihan subway) (6 min.)

*on the 12th, 13th, 19th, 20th, 26th (accompanied by live Traditional Japanese Music)

Aoi Matsuri (Aoi Festival)

One of the famous festival called Aoi Matsuri in Kyoto is coming on 15th of May.


People who wear the aristocratic clothes of the time of Heian period (
about millennia ago) walk around the Kyoto city.These dressed in Costume start walking from the imperial palace, pass through Shimogamo shrine, and get to the Kamigamo shrine.


There are not only people who wear these noble clothes, but also there are cows, horses, and oxcart to brighten up this festival. Audiences are able to appreciate the life style and culture of Japanese old time.

Mikage Matsuri-Festival


Pre-festival ceremony of Aoi Matsuri to welcome the soul of the gods to Shimogamo shrine.

More than 100 Shinto priests visit to Mikage shrine in Yase. Bugaku dances are performed at Shimogamo shrine.
